Eric Miller, vice-president of the board of trustees of Bloy House, the Episcopal Theological School at Los Angeles, will serve as its acting dean, Bishop John Harvey Taylor announced today.
Miller, a parishioner of Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel, and a longtime professional in corporate communications, will fill the role of the Very Rev. Paul Anthony Daniels, rector of L.A.'s St. Mary's in Palms Episcopal Church, who has stepped down after nearly two years as Bloy House dean to accept a new position at L.A. Voice specializing in advocacy for affordable housing. Miller's new role is effective immediately.
“Eric brings so many gifts to his role as acting dean, beginning with a deep love for The Episcopal Church and a commitment to the unique charisms Bloy House offers in lay leadership formation and lifelong spiritual formation." Taylor said. "Eric’s academic background as expert in institutional communications will also be a boon."
"He’ll be working closely with our dedicated board during transition times for both Bloy House and diocese, preparing for collaborations with my successor as board chair, Bishop-elect Gallardo Lucena," Taylor said. "We’ll also continue to rely on the keen insights of Eric’s predecessor, Paul, who will be doing vital work with our partners at LA Voice, helping us continue to stand up for housing justice.”
"Bloy House is playing a critical role in the evolution of Episcopal education and it is an honor to help guide it along this journey," Miller said.
Bloy House is currently offering courses in Sacred Leadership Licensing, postulant training workshops, and a certificate in Anglican studies.
Daniels also will continue his Ph.D. studies in systematic theology at Fordham University as a recipient of the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship.
